Konocti Challenge

2008

The Courses

Set in beautiful Lake County, the Konocti Challenge features three challenging event courses.  Riders can opt for the leisurely 30 mile course that winds through the resort and vineyard sections of north Lakeport; for the more adventuresome riders, the event also offers a 65 mile course and endurance testing 100 mile course, both of which follow the north and east rim of Clear Lake and wind into the foothills of the south and west, offering breathtaking views of the lake and vineyards, which are in full bloom in October.

All three rides begin and end at Lakeport Yacht Club, at the water's edge in Lakeport.  The 100 km and 100 mile riders are released between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and the 30 mile riders leave between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

This year we have included the BRDAA Ride Rating for each course. If you would like to see how the ratings are achieved just click on the BRDAA Ride Rating links. You will open a page that will explain the ratings and offer the Konocti Challenge ratings at a glance.

100 mile ride

BRDAA Ride Rating

100 mile ride will be a challenge not only for its distance but also for the climb in elevation.  You can expect grades of 6% to 10%. This ride should be joined only by experienced riders who love a challenge! As you wind around the Clear Lake from Lakeport, pass through the quiet morning Lakeside towns to Lower Lake, you will find the real challenge begins as you leave Lower Lake and begin your trek towards the Hoberg/Cobb Mountain loop. You can take advantage of six rest stops through your loop with full SAG support if you need it. Bring plenty of fluids and snacks to get you through the ride!

Don't forget major refueling when you return to Lakeport for Kenny's world famous Bar-B-Que! A great way to settle in after a great early autumn challenge!

Ride Stats:

Start:   7:00 a.m - 8:30 a.m.

Total Climb
6200 feet

65 mile ride

BRDAA Ride Rating

The 100 kilometer (65 mile) ride offers a great ride through some of Lake County's very best shoreline vistas. As you cruise

past Lower Lake you will be greeted by inclines that will eventually surrender themselves to Point Lakeview Road and views of the Lake most visitors to Clear Lake will never witness! You will also find a very challenging grade that upon reaching the top you will celebrate your hard work with post card scenic views of the lake! As in the 100 mile ride you will have full SAG support and the benefit of rest stops along your way.  Four in all.  Though you can take advantage of convenience stores on your route, you may still want to carry plenty of water and snacks to keep you going. While less than half the climb of our 100 mile loop, the 100 km ride is still a challenge. You will cover the 65 mile loop while negotiating a total foot climb of over 2000 feet!

30 mile ride

BRDAA Ride Rating

Leaving Lakeport heading south and finally east to Finley you will start the return trip to Lakeport in Kelseyville. This ride offers mild inclines through more scenic and enjoyable Lake County country side. With two rest stops and some great roads to cycle this loop offers a comfortable ride with just enough effort to have most of us feel we "earned" the great bar-b-que meal waiting for us at the finish line in Lakeport. Rolling hills and scenic pedaling, this route is great for novice and more traveled riders.

Ride Stats:

Start:   8:00 a.m - 10:00 a.m.

Low Point
1343 feet
High Point
1680 feet
Total Climb
500 feet
